Custom container for McLaren
Project Description
Acres developed a custom industrial container for McLaren, designed for the internal logistics of A-B active splitters within the plant. The solution allows for more controlled movement of parts, keeping them correctly positioned and reducing the risk of unwanted contact during transport, handling, or temporary storage.
Client Requirement
McLaren required a specific solution to move active splitters within their production environment without compromising the protection or positioning of the parts.
These components require defined supports, separation between units, and protective elements to prevent impacts, shifting, or unwanted contact during internal transport. A generic container or a standard rack did not allow for each part to be properly secured or adequately integrated into the plant’s logistical flow.
The objective was to develop a solution that combined internal logistics, part protection, position control, and ease of handling for repeated use in production.
Solution Developed by Acres
The design was developed to create a technical internal logistics container capable of keeping the active splitters separated, supported, and protected during movement within the plant.
Acres configured a specific solution for McLaren with a metallic structure and support points designed to follow the shape of the part. The foam supports help protect contact areas, while the support plates and retention elements keep each component in a stable and repeatable position.
The solution facilitates more organized handling, reduces the risk of damage during internal transport, and allows the container to be integrated into the production flow without relying on generic racks or improvised supports.
Technical Design Specifications
- Main structure manufactured in carbon steel to provide rigidity and strength during internal transport.
- 50 x 50 x 3 mm structural tubing used in the assembly's main frame.
- S275JR support plates designed to fix and position the protective elements.
- GCIP 60 kg PE foam supports incorporated into the main support areas of the part.
- GCIP 45 kg PE foam supports integrated into specific areas of the design.
- Foam bonded to metal using double-sided tape to ensure the bond between the protections and the structure.
- Folded tab used as a stop to help control the position of the active splitter within the container.
- Index bolts and mechanical fasteners to adjust, retain, and secure the assembly's moving elements.
