Component cleanliness test trolley for JLR
Project description
Acres Engineering designed and manufactured a cleanliness test trolley for JLR, intended for the transport and protection of components during cleanliness testing. The trolley incorporates five specific housings, a fully sealed tray, and a transparent lid that allows the contents to be checked without opening it.
Customer requirement
JLR required a specific trolley to move components to the cleanliness testing area without environmental exposure introducing particles or contaminants capable of altering the test results.
In addition to protecting the parts, the trolley had to keep them separate and correctly positioned, allow the contents to be checked without opening the compartment, and offer convenient access during loading and unloading operations.
Mobility was also a fundamental requirement. The trolley had to be manually maneuverable around the plant and automatically brake when the operator stopped controlling the trolley, preventing involuntary movements during stops, part handling, or parking.
Solution developed by Acres
Acres developed the trolley, integrating the structure, protection compartment, part housings, opening system, and mobility and braking elements into a single design.
The upper zone forms an enclosed space around the components. Its transparent lid allows the contents and correct placement of the parts to be checked without needing to open it, reducing environmental exposure. Inside, five independent housings keep the components separate and supported in defined positions.
One of the main design elements is the deadman brake system. The brake remains applied while the trolley is at rest and is only released when the operator activates the control located on the handle. Upon release, the system automatically brakes the trolley again, preventing uncontrolled movement during transport, stops, and loading and unloading operations.
The result is a bespoke industrial intralogistics solution that integrates contamination protection, specific positioning, and secure transport within an automotive cleanliness control process.
Technical design specifications
- Welded tubular carbon steel frame with a turquoise blue powder-coated finish.
- Interior white-painted sheet steel tray, fully welded and with sealed joints to prevent the accumulation of contaminants.
- Capacity to transport five components in independent housings.
- Plastic supports adapted to the geometry of the parts.
- Full-width hinged lid with a transparent panel for visual inspection.
- Enclosed compartment to reduce particle ingress and protect components.
- Gas springs to assist lid opening.
- Deadman brake system operated from the push handle.
- Automatic braking upon control release to prevent involuntary movements.
- Four industrial castors for manual movement within the plant.
- Warning labels to identify the specific use of the trolley.
